7 lbs. Amber DME
1 lbs. Crytal Malt 60L
8oz. Black Roasted Barley
Hop Bill:
2 oz. Northern Brewer Hop Pellets (Bittering)
2 oz. Cascade Whole Leaf(Finishing)
Mash Schedule:
Take 1.5gls. Water Heat To 170dgs.F Add Crystal Malt 60L, And Black Roasted Barley Steep (Around 20 Minutes)Remove Grains, Add 1gls.Water And Bring To Boil.Add 3lbs. Amber DME And 1oz. Northern Brewer Hops Keep Water At Rolling Boil For 20 Minutes,Then Add 2nd oz. Of Northern Brewer Hops And 2 More lbs.Of Amber DME Keep At Rolling Boil. At 55 Minutes Into Boil Add 1oz. Cascade Hops And Last 2 lbs.Amber DME Make Sure All DME Is Broken Down At 60 Minutes Remove Wort From Stove Add Water To 5gls. Cool Down To 70dgs.F Pitch Yeast And Aerate.
Brewers Notes:
After Fermentation Subsides Transfer To 2nd Fermenter And Dry Hop 1oz. Cascade Hops Into Secondary. Hold In Secondary For 7 Days, Keg Or Bottle As Normal.(I Used Amber DME To Bottle As It Gives A Nice Creamy Head As Opposed To Corn Sugar)
The Resulting Beer Was Hard To Classify As It Had The Color And Smoothe Maltiness Of A Brown Ale With The Aroma And Great Hoppiness Of A IPA, Thus, The Name Skidmark India Brown Ale.
It Was A Quick Fermenter, And Tasted Great After 2 Weeks In Bottles. It Did Not Last Long As My Friends Drank This One Up.
